The interview can be an intimidating process. You’ve obviously made it through the first round, but it’s no longer a piece of paper showing off your skills, but you.
Are you dressed well enough? Is there food in your teeth? The list goes on. Finding a place that you want to work was stressful enough, but now you have to prove your worth it, right?
Just hold on a second.
What most people overlook, whether they’re a job seeker, or looking to hire, is the fact that it’s a two-way street. The interview isn’t about lobbing difficult questions at a potential candidate to see how they squirm. It’s to see how well they will fit into the corporate structure. In fact, the best way to describe it, is a conversation. The question you should be asking yourself, is how do you prepare for it.
1. Be well rested – Your mind works best when you’re rested.
2. Research the company and its primary officers. In today’s world, Facebook and Google will help you understand who you’re speaking with.
3. Know what you want. – Be ready to recognize if it’s the right fit for you.
4. Be yourself. – They aren’t hiring a robot and if the questions are too vague or difficult, it’s on them.
5. Learn some body language. – They’re likely nervous too. They’re investing a lot to get the right person.
An interview isn’t an inquisition, nor is the interviewer your adversary. Be prepared, but also be comfortable. You got this.
