6 Things To Offer Instead Of A Pay Raise
6 Things To Offer Instead Of A Pay Raise

You know the saying, time is money?

What if it wasn’t true? What if time was something else other than what you pay?

The next generation of workers don’t seem to value money the same way that the last did. Giving them a few bucks more doesn’t always get a corresponding bump in productivity.

What motivates employees then? What can employers offer to get that great machine rolling efficiently?

Six things to consider instead of more money.

1. More personal time – whether it’s to take vacations, do charitable work, or go to the dentist.

2. Donations to their favourite charity – showing your people you care can go a long way, especially if it’s going to something they care about.

3. Benefits – A group plan can be worth more to people who need medication or have kids.

4. Gym memberships – becoming healthy is a benefit for everyone.

5. Flexible hours – Some people have young children to pick up or drop off at day care. Some would rather work at midnight. Having some flexibility can go a long way.

6. Discounts with suppliers – You’ve negotiated good rates with some of your suppliers. Passing that off to your employees now and then can help them save time AND money.

Sometimes it doesn’t seem like much to one person, but it means the world to another. As employers we need to think like the new generation of workers so we can offer them more than just the same old compensation. If you aren’t sure, then ask. You may be surprised what they value more than pay.
