5 Reasons You Should Never Fear A Stepping Stone Job

Stepping Stone Job

Everyone has a dream job. When we’re little everyone wants to be an astronaut or a doctor, but as we age and learn, we start to form an idea of what our dream job would be like. It’s that experience of going to work and never feeling like it’s work. Your dream job gives you the feeling like you are at a resort, able to relax and do all of your favourite things. It isn’t work, it’s AWESOME.

But then reality hits home as we search for a job. Maslow said it best when he created the hierarchy of needs; food, shelter, clothing. Click here for our article on that hierarchy.

That’s why you may need a stepping stone job. In fact, there are other reasons why you may need a temporary job.

1. A paycheque: Your bills still have to be paid. A stepping stone job will do that until you find the perfect job.

2. Skills: You may not be qualified for your dream job yet. A stepping stone job can teach you the skills you need to excel at your dream job.

3. Experience: Just like your skills, sometimes you need experience on paper to show you’re ready.

4. Networking: Often, the stepping stone job is something you and your employer create so you can get to know the people you’re working with before you move into management above them.

5. Test the waters: You may think a job is perfect for you, but sometimes you need to get your feet with the company or a similar position just to make sure.

There are many reasons why you may take an easier job even though you are more than qualified and you have the perfect job waiting for you elsewhere. Learn from these experiences so you can be all the more qualified and ready when you land that dream job.
